Everything's Slow

Firstly, our internet connection has been mired in molasses until just now -- thus the late posting . . .

Secondly, back on Thursday I tripped and fell on our front porch and, attempting to break my fall, came down hard on my left hand. Nothing broken but something very wrong with my left shoulder.

Torn ligaments, said the doctor, when I went to the clinic. Immobilize arm for seven days and it will probably heal.

Thus I find myself with left arm in a sling, typing one-handed.

It's amazing how useful it is to have two hands . . . I can still dress myself-- socks are tricky and putting on a bra involves the creative use of a door knob and a little help from my T-Rex left hand held high on my chest. But getting a scrunchie to hold back my hair -- that I have to ask John to do.

Doing dishes, fixing dinner -- all possible, though everything takes about twice as long.  Sweeping one-handed can be done -- using the dust pan efficiently cannot.

Now I'm going to see if I can put clean sheets on the bed . . . the fitted bottom sheet may be difficult . .. or not.

Of course, John would help if I asked. But I really like to see what I can do on my own.

Oh nooooooooo! Dang porch. Try to take it easy, which probably isn't in your vocabulary and ask for help and don't be pigheaded about it. Hope it heals and no further action will be necessary.

There used to be a camera store I went to in the days before digital and the woman behind the counter had a prosthetic hand. I used to spend much of the rest of the day wondering what life would be like one-handed, and then I broke my arm. My sympathies!

Take it easy for a long time - ligaments are far slower to heal than bones. After a few weeks, though, a visit or five to a physical therapist to get exercises for healing may be in order.

Thanks, folks! I go back to the doc next Thursday or Friday -- we'll see.

Pigheaded, Ms. A? Moi?

Oh, Vicki! I'm so sorry about your injury. Do take care and don't do too much too soon.

Take care, Vicki. Ask John for help because it doesn't take much to wrench that shoulder. I had rotator cuff surgery years back, and I was out of commission for months. I remember taking full advantage of my disability. Martyrdom didn't really suit me.

So sorry to hear of your ding Vicki...and like everyone else, I hope you can let others help you as much as you need. Once you figure out the limits of that shoulder, which should take about a day...then you'll be able to go full steam ahead on the gimpy way of life...letting nature heal that shoulder. I'm glad to hear it wasn't any worse.

Oh Vicki, I am sorry to hear of your fall...and the results.

Before you do return next week to the doctor, I would advise you to accept the kindness of loved ones, who'd very much like to add a helping hand and arm.

(Your might even learn some stuff to be used in a novel sometime.)

Oh no! So sorry for your fall and injury. I agree about the physical therapist, they know just how to hurt you to get your mobility back. Good luck healing, and watch out for gravity!

Drat that pesky gravity anyhow!

So sorry for your fall... One day at a time.

I'm also sorry to hear about your fall. I guess we're alike in that I try things on my own first, which I call independence, yet my husband called it stubborn, and that's with me doing stuff with two hands. Take care .....

Ouch - so so sorry Vicki - and I hope you did rest today - and will for seven more so healing can take place!

I'm so sorry about your injury! Trust you to turn it into a learning experience!

So sorry to hear that Vicki. That's three mishaps so perhaps now the tricky fairy will leave you alone? Take care, don't overdo it, if you can...

Oh no. That doesn't sound good. You are brave to try and do it all on your own. Hope the seven days fly and you're good as new before you know it.

P.S. We have the molasses internet here too. Local authorities blame it on not enough bandwidth for their usage during certain times of the day... no good options available.

I'm sorry to hear you took a tumble. Just think how much you are going to appreciate having two hands again once you heal. Um... have you thought that you might heal quicker if you took it a little easy? Take care of yourself!
